Comment Sought on Medicines and Related Substances Act Regulations

Draft amendments to Medicines and Related Substances Act Regulations have been drawn up.

The health department published the proposed Regulations in Government Gazette 47053 for comment.

A new definition on compound is proposed.

It refers to the preparation, mixing, combining, packaging and labelling of a medicine by a pharmacist, pharmacist intern or pharmacist’s assistant; a veterinarian; or by a person licensed in terms of section 22C(1)(a) of the act.

A new sub-regulation (1) on compounding a medicine is proposed for Regulation 3.

Comment is invited within one month of the date of publication.

Meanwhile, in Gazette 47054, the department published Draft Regulations Relating to the Profession of Therapeutic Massage.

The proposed Regulations were drawn up in terms of the Allied Health Professions Act.

The draft Regulations focus on acts specifically pertaining to the profession of a therapeutic massage therapist and remedies relating to therapeutic massage.

Comment is invited within one month of the date of publication.
