Comment on Norms and Standards for Student Housing Extended

Comment on the Draft Revised Policy on the Minimum Norms and Standards for Student Housing at Public Institutions of Higher Learning has been extended.

The higher education and training department announced the extension in Government Gazette 45643 in terms of the Higher Education Act.

The Draft Revised Policy was published for comment in Gazette 45396 on 29 October 2021.

Comment was initially invited within 31 calendar days excluding Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays of the date of publication.

According to the department, the decision to review the current policy was taken to create a single policy containing an integrated set of minimum norms and standards for the public technical and vocational education and training colleges and public universities.

The Draft Policy focuses on application; physical infrastructure; health and safety; furnishings, fittings and equipment; construction, repairs and maintenance; student well-being and support; student housing governance and management; financial control and management of student housing; compliance with minimum norms and standards and phasing in of the revised policy.

Comment is now invited until 31 March 2022.
