Civil Aviation Appeal Committee Nominations Sought

The transport department has re-advertised for applications or nominations for appointment to the Civil Aviation Appeal Committee.

The invitation was published in Government Gazette 43090.

According to the notice, the appeal committee is set up to consider appeals lodged against decisions taken by the Director of Civil Aviation in terms of section 120(2) of the act.

The Appeal Committee consists of the Presiding Officer and two members with the Presiding Officer having not less than 10 years experience as an attorney or advocate.

Appointees will serve on a part-time basis for three years.

Applications and nominations are invited until 27 March 2020.

Meanwhile, in a statement, the department confirmed that, in line with president Ramaphosa’s announcement that a travel ban on foreign nationals from high-risk countries such as Italy, Iran, South Korea, Spain, Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom and China is being imposed as from 18 March 2020, no foreign nationals from these countries will be allowed through South Africa’s ports of entry, including airports, sea ports and railways and Charter Operators will be re-routed to international airports that have the Ports Health capability to manage a suspected case.

The department also indicated that the necessary regulations to enable cross-border transport measures have been developed and will be implemented on time for the measures to kick in on 18 March 2020.

The Cross Border Road Transport Agency is reviewing permit issuance, together with the department, provinces and SADC member states, in order to discourage all non-essential cross border movement.
