Animal Diseases Regulations Amended

August 3, 2022

Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development

Animal Diseases Regulations have been amended.

The agriculture, land reform and rural development department published the amendments in Government Gazette 47133 in terms of the Animal Diseases Act.

The definition of “efficient remedy” is deleted from Regulation 1 and a new definition on “effective remedy” inserted.

It means a “remedy registered in terms of the Fertilizers, Farm Feed, Agricultural Remedies and Stock Remedies Act, 1947 (Act 36 of 1947) for the particular purpose, or any medicine or veterinary medicine registered in terms of the Medicines and Related Substances Control Act, 1965 (Act 101 of 1965) for the particular purpose, or any medicine approved for a particular use by the director in writing”.

A new entry on African Horse Sickness is inserted into Table 1.

Table 2 is also amended by the removal of reference to Africa Horse Sickness and its replacement with African Horse Sickness.
