2021/22 Water Research Levy Adjusted

The 2021/22 Water Research Levy has increased by 4.2%.

The water and sanitation department announced the increase in Government Gazette 45175 in terms of the Water Research Act.

Rates and charges applicable from 1 July 2021 until June 2022 include 721 cents in respect of each hectare of land of which the water use is permissible for irrigation; 7,01 cents per cubic metre in respect of metered water supplied from government water works for purposes other than irrigation and 7,01 cents per cubic metre in respect of quantity of water supplied or made available for use for urban, industrial or domestic purposes by a statutory body or water management institution.

Meanwhile, in a statement, the department has announced that the Ministerial Advisory Committees set up by former human settlements, water and sanitation minister, Lindiwe Sisulu, are to be disbanded.

Committees established included the Water Advisory Committee, Water Services Committee, National Rapid Response Task Team and the Disciplinary Advisory Committee.

According to the department, water and sanitation minister, Senzo Mchunu, will be “writing to the chairpersons of the various committees, requesting close out reports in respect of the activities they had undertaken during their term”.
